Prairie Music Academy is a nonprofit community music school in Sun Praire, WI. Our nonprofit status allows us to pursue musical projects within and around our community -- providing musical activites for families and children who may not otherwise have the opportunity.
In 2009-2010, Prairie Music Academy offered early childhood music and concerts to Children's Hospital of Madison, WI. Part of the Prairie Music Academy Harmony for Kids project, the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission supported the program with additional funds from the American Girl's Fund for Children, the Evjue Foundation, the Overture Foundation, and Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation.
Prairie Music Academy is being partially supported through a Musikgarten Foundation Music for Learning grant, a two-year grant program providing training and weekly music classes to a high percentage of subsidized students in daycare programs. Currently, this program resides with the SunnyDay Preschool Center in Sun Prairie. In early 2009, Prairie Music Academy sponsored a masterclass for Sun Prairie High vocalists with world-renowned bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen. The program was made possible through a grant from the Sun Prairie Education Foundation. The event included a performance and Q&A session with Mr. Ketelsen. A native of Clinton, Iowa, Ketelsen's impressive resume includes performances with the London Philharmonia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, and with noted performers Itzhack Perlman, Placido Domingo, and John DeMain. His stunning operatic resume boasts roles such as Escamillo in Carmen and Mephistopheles in Faust.
Mr. Ketelsen's masterclass was enjoyed by the entire choral department at Sun Prairie High. His coaching proved to be inspiring, helping young musicians get a first-hand glimpse at what it means to be an international performer.
Additional outreach programs include early childhood music classes at area community centers.
